The Deepwater Drilling Engineer in Chevrons Deepwater Well Engineering and Operations group will be responsible for fit for purpose well designs, AFE generation and risk assessments and probabilistic cost estimates. The scope of operations will consist of exploration/appraisal well drilling/testing or deepwater development well drilling and completions. The primary focus of this position will be planning the next well in the rig queue, then serving as the operations engineer for that well during the execution phase of the process. Depending on the needs of the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Drilling and Completions team this position will reside on either the exploration/appraisal team or the Major Capital Projects Team. Major Capital Project role that could be filled will support Jack/St. Malo, Tahiti Phase II and Big Foot. The Major Capitol Projects position will interface on a daily basis with facilities project personnel, subsurface teams including geologists and reservoir engineers, intervention engineers and completion engineers.

Position Details: Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Insuring accurate pore pressure/fracture gradient analyses are performed.
Responsible for well design, AFE costs, tubular and wellhead design as well as assisting with procurement.
Coordinating and insuring the accuracy of directional well plans, drilling fluids design, shallow hazards, etc.

Working with the exploration, appraisal well teams, asset teams and major capital project teams to develop fit for purpose exploration and development wells.
Collaborating with the Geological & Geophysical Operations team to insure accurate earth model and well designs and that geological and geophysical goals are realistically planned and attainable.
Working with respective rig contractors and third party service contractors as appropriate to achieve well and completion design goals.
Keeping up with latest technology applicable to well engineering and operations

Assisting with metrics measurement and application.
Assisting in training/mentoring younger employees.

Supporting the superintendent with Plans of Action (POAs), MOCs, regulatory issues and other issues that are required to be addressed during the successful execution of a deepwater well.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering is required.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in over-water, preferably deepwater, well engineering and operations.
Demonstrated experience in well engineering, planning and operations, Offshore, directional drilling, time and cost estimating, writing of drilling and completion programs.
Experience with deep high pressure drilling and completion environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
Deepwater experience
Subsea completion experience
Experience working on or with floating drilling operations
Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
