Instrumentation and Electrical Engineer

Location: Houston, TX
Instrumentation and Electrical Engineer needed for a long term contract position with a major oil and gas company in Houston.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of seven years experience working in the oil and gas industry. Commissioning and brownfield background is required as well as previous experience working directly with an operating company. Must be eligible to work in the US without company sponsorship.
Required competencies include:
Knowledge of electrical codes, industry recommended practices and company standards; design and use of process safety and controls, and fire and gas monitoring systems, possess capabilities and design (software and hardware) of multiple PLC, HMI and/or DCS systems as well as pneumatic systems and components; as well as be experienced in the design and operation of onshore and offshore electrical systems for the oil and gas industry including high and low voltage generation and distribution systems; and have an understanding in the intent and use of the EMCAPS/UPMS system and deliverables. A basic knowledge of rotating equipment and piping systems, and oil and gas processing techniques and requirements is needed. Experience in support of operations and process monitoring would be beneficial.
Responsibilities of the role include:
Establishing design requirements and ensuring design deliverables; developing cost estimates and schedules for electrical and/or instrumentation and controls design deliverables at various phases of the project; developing effective electrical power generation and distribution philosophies and/or controls architecture philosophies using applicable standards and specifications; and reviewing and guiding contractor's planning, scheduling and coordination of the Instrument and Controls/Electrical engineering activities in a multidiscipline project.
