Gas Turbine Test Technician

Location: United States - Dallas - Solar Turbines Incorporated
Employment duration: Full time

Perform routine Quality Testing of Gas Producers, Power Turbines, and Reduction Gearboxes to ensure conformance to Solar and/or customer specifications. Duties will include: installation, testing, troubleshooting (including performance and vibration data analysis), minor rework, and removal of units under test; documentation of test results; assisting Test and Product Engineering in the resolution of test discrepancies; performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance (including troubleshooting) of test facilities and “slave” test equipment to ensure data accuracy while minimizing test cell downtime; and assisting calibration technician during periodic cell calibration.

Familiar with operating principles of gas turbine engines and mechanical and/or electronic equipment required.
Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
Minimum 2 years of demonstrated gas turbine or rotating equipment experience (previous “test” experience desirable) highly desired.
Must be able to work the required rotating shift schedule (3 months on 1st shift, then 3 month on 2nd shift, and so on).
Minimum of 5 years experience operating shop equipment, bench tools, hand tools, and inspection and test equipment (micrometers and multimeters) is preferred.
A&P license preferred.
Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
Ability to resolve complex problems and make sound decisions.
Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet production and team goals.
Willing to take initiative to improve quality, reduce turn times, and minimize cost.
Ability to work independently and contribute to the overall success of the Test Cell Team.
Must be able to communicate effectively within a cross-functional environment.
Must possess demonstrated computer skills (especially in Microsoft Excel and Word).
Must be available to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.

Successful candidate will initially work rotating shifts under the general direction of the Unit and/or Team Leader.

Pay Rate: Salary :54,080.00 - 62,400.00 USD /year

Power Plant GAS TURBINE MECHANIC needed in southeast Maryland. Requires HS Education and minimum 2 to 5 years experience in gas turbines including strong mechanical abilities in balance of plant equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, and valves. Must be able to work with P&IDs and perform basic millwright duties. Must have knowledge of rotating machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, control & manual valves, piping systems, and general power plant machinery. A PLUS to have general understanding of electrical and electrical control systems. Nonunion.

Position will support electric generating plant gas turbine and balance of plant operations and maintenance. Day shift, Monday through Friday but will periodically require work on other shifts/days to support outages or emergency repairs and installations.

- Under general supervision, perform and check most types of calculations and design using both computer-aided and manual design techniques. Provide assistance to the Lead Engineer, as requested, in the area of schedules, estimates, progress reports, meetings, procurement, activities, etc.
- If serving in a Lead or Area Lead position, perform all or some of the following: organize/plan jobs, write/review specifications, prepare/maintain schedules, develop/monitor estimates and manpower forecasts, assign work, work with project/client/field, material procurement, permit, and subcontract activities.
- Utilize vendor data and work with personnel from other disciplines as required for the performance of designs.

- Attend external technical seminars and self-enroll in Fluor’s training courses.

Candidates will be responsible for evaluating unserviceable gas turbine engine hardware to identify distress and cause, and to define the repair scheme for restoring to serviceable condition. Familiarity with Engine Shop Manuals is a plus.

- Stress analysis experience, including FEA and/or ASME pressure vessel code based analysis
- 3D CAD experience, especially with Pro/Engineer

- Experience with the manufacture of complex parts and fabrications made from stainless steels or nickel based alloys.
- Experience designing parts which operate in a high vibration and high temperature environment.
- Experience with component testing for part qualification, especially shake table or combustion testing.
